Position Title: Farm Production Technician

Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of this role is to execute daily tasks and standard operating procedures within the wean-to-finish unit to meet production and research needs. This individual is also responsible for ensuring the proper care and well-being of animals at all times.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform daily swine production operations, including weaning, feeding, animal movement, power washing, administering medications and vaccinations, and adjusting feeders as needed.
- Conduct research-related activities such as weighing pens of pigs, individual pigs, and feeders; collecting feed samples; recording trial data; and performing daily observations of pigs and the environment.
- Coordinate and perform general repairs and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
- Assist other farm employees in completing daily tasks.

- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Work Environment:
- Work primarily occurs in an indoor swine confinement environment, which includes exposure to dusty and noisy conditions with animals exhibiting unpredictable movements.
- Requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as research demands.

Education / Training
- High school diploma or GED required.
Relevant Experience
- 1–2 years of professional experience in swine production preferred.
Specialized Knowledge
- Knowledge of swine production principles and procedures.
- Understanding of general maintenance techniques.
- Familiarity with general safety principles.
- Knowledge of research, data collection, and reporting techniques.
Non-Technical Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to identify and address potential safety concerns.

Licenses / Certification
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more periodically.
- Flexibility for frequent bending and twisting.
- Capability to withstand physical interactions with animals.
- Good mobility, including the ability to move quickly when necessary.
Safety Requirements
- Use ear protection in high-noise areas.
- Wear a breathing mask in dusty environments.
- Adherence to all company safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Use safety goggles where flying objects may pose a risk.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- College coursework in animal science, agriculture, or related fields preferred.
